Prism Vacuum Shelf Tray Dryers are used to heat and dry materials under vacuum conditions, a process called vacuum drying. This technique is used for drying materials that are difficult to dry due to high toxicity, hygroscopic nature, or heat sensitivity. Vacuum drying is widely used in pharmaceutical, herbal, chemical, and food industries.
A Prism Vacuum Shelf Dryer is essentially a tray dryer that operates under vacuum conditions. It uses vacuum pressure to remove air and humidity from the closed heat chamber. This creates a vacuum state that greatly increases the drying rate and saves energy. Since the system is in a closed loop, no contamination occurs during the drying process. The evaporated materials during the drying process are cooled down through a connected condenser and collected in a receiver. When combined with a solvent extraction system, the vacuum shelf dryer ensures that almost all evaporated vapors are recovered and condensed into the receiver.
The Prism Vacuum Shelf Dryer is a closed chamber with a heavy structure, air lock doors, a jacketed and insulated body. Inside the chamber, there are shelves for resting trays. The shelves are manufactured in a hollow construction with baffles, stiffeners, inlet and outlet nozzles. A hot medium is passed through the inlet header to each shelf, transferring heat to the surface and in turn, heating up the trays placed on the shelves. The hot medium flows out from the shelves through the outlet header
